May, 2010

I always enjoy covering Thao’s show, N.E.S. so when she asked me to take on three weeks in a row this May, I relished the idea of preparing and presenting 6 hours of freeform goodness.
Here is part three of what I call the Maya Sessions, a final freeform affair presented from the comfort of A-Control where I could lay into the console a bit more while airing out some fresh cuts found mere hours before the show. Of particular interest here is an untitled Aphex joint from a live gig just days before, although an admittedly low tech recording, it deserved double playback. Also littering the psychosphere are the sounds of the latest Heinrich Mueller project, Zwischenwelt, which features former Kommando 6 label maestro Beta Evers. No wonder of the three Maya Sessions, this one is my favorite. Listen up to hear why.

Here is part two of what I call the Maya Sessions, another freeform affair that peels out from B-Control with the Bullitt trailer and tears through musical traffic cones setup to test your ability to handle some serious genre cornering. Click the link to enjoy the slalom course.

Here is part one of what I call the Maya Sessions, a freeform affair that features a healthy dose of the new LCD Soundsystem, some cuts dedicated to Malcolm McLaren, new favorites by Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti and Terror Bird and much, much more. Enjoy the sounds.

Yes I know the show is called House Therapy but a “dubstep” edition was well in order for the night of the 11th anniversary (Steel!) of Crook & Lenore’s drum and bass weekly, Elements. So, sit tight and listen keenly while I play for you a brand new musical biscuit!

This mix is inspired by the sounds heard at The Rock Bottom at Casa Verde in Rincon, PR. Home of broken surfboards, $2 rum punch, grouper bites, and choice laid back tunes by Drew. Shouts as well to Mike & Ezra and the kitchen crew!

It’s funny what one little wire can do, when it’s purpose is grounding. A buzzy troublesome connection becomes quiet and sublime. Similarly, it can take one single thread of consciousness to tether your unconscious. After getting back on track, this time through things are grounded.

After falling off updates for some months, we get right back on track with the live mix portion of a recent House Therapy session on 88.1FM WMBR. This set was inspired by the good taste and positive influence of Titonton Duvante.
Please note there are slight audio anomalies in the very beginning of the recording and stereo will kick in eventually and remain throughout the hour set.

It’s always a pleasure to cover Thao’s show, N.E.S. and try to sing my songs in her key. That is if you can put a scream in a key. That’s probably the point here, there, and everywhere in this set. Just check the playlist if that’s not confusing enough. Better yet, have a listen, here’s the whole show.
